HISD to file suit against Texas Comptroller’s Office.
Houston & Texas News |
The Houston Chronicle reported that The Houston school board (HISD) voted Thursday to litigate if the state comptroller’s office findings cause the HISD to loose state school funding.Â
HISD argues that The Comptroller Office overvalued their properties in their 2007 ratio study of HISD property values. This is the second year that the Harris County Appraisal Distruict failed the state madidated study for HISD, which could cause HISD to loose $3 million in funding.
“Combs’ office counters that the property in HISD, particularly commercial buildings and apartment complexes, is being undervalued by the Harris County Appraisal District”.
“Basically, the comptroller’s staff thinks we’re under-appraising property,” said Jim Robinson, Harris County’s chief appraiser. “I don’t think you’d find a single taxpayer who agrees.”
